While I do not deny major scams in the educational sector in India - private, state owned and non-governmental - I cannot vouch for the absolute validity of such exams as NET. The UGC Net curriculum in Anthropology and other social sciences is pathetically outdated and whatever a NET in anthropology it does assure, it does NOT assure a good anthropologist. And I can say this with absolute confidence. Same for Sociology. A PhD from a good national or central university is obviously far more credible. For example a PhD in anthropology from Delhi University, IIT Bombay, Hyderabad Central University, or even Madras, Calcutta, BHU carries far more weight and credibility than a NET.
