Re: Is women to be seen flesh and blood?
Dear Senthil,

Should we not be realists and dig the truth rather than being biased and digging only positive or negative. I am trying to be secular and I dig both good and bad about India. Who told you that seculars dig only the negative? You don't claim yourself to be secular I guess! Mahatma Gandhi was secular and he praised so many things about India's past, and criticised so many things in India's past. Rather it is the British historians who mostly dug the negatives about India and it is secular historians like Romila Thapar who have called their bluff. You'd rather rely on British archives than search for truth wherever it is available. Don't get in to any biased circles of those who look only for good or only for the bad. Be a seeker of truth. Remember also that different circumstances call for different approaches. For instance the role of a Cricket Selector is to find out which actor has which strengths so that s/he can select a balanced and effective team. The role of a physio on the other hand is to find out which player has problems in which area so that s/he can help strengthen those areas. If a physio simply refuses to admit that Tendulkar has a tennis elbow, he is not helping anyone, not Tendulkar and not Team India. In a perverse sort of way he could end up helping Australia. And you Senthil, if you refuse to identify the weaknesses of our society, you are not going to contribute to the solution of those problems and you would help others and not India. You say that you are a nationalist, I am a nationalist too and I also share your religion, i.e Hinduism, so go ahead find strengths of India and build on them. But also find out weaknesses and solve them. Else you'll actually never become much of a nationalist. A Jingpoist you may become, but in the end you will end up helping India, the way Hitler helped the Germans or Saddam Hussain helped Iraqis.

with warm regards

Manas
