I do not understand the thread of your argument.. What other vendors do has little to do with what OLPC does. None of what have said applied to OLPC. Intel was our partner and chose to go its way as its likely that they may not have wanted to be on the same table as AMD. However, OLPC XO has become a pioneer in shaping the laptops are made today. It was designed three years ago and now all the new laptops are designed like XO.. with solid state hard disk and no CD/DVD drive.. low maintenance etc.. They still do not have a number a features XO has.. Ask how much cheaper this laptop is. I just went to buy a tiny SD card of 4 GB that does little other than store date and its cost is $89?? Does $210 as the cost of production of XO sound good after knowing that? Its not as fragile as most laptops that cost many times over... It is something the kids love.. And its a laptop for learning vis a vis all other PCs and laptops that are designed for office productivity.. Competition is good for everyone.. In fact competition is celebration of the fact each of us something unique to offer and should have an opportunity to offer we create for the benefit of those who may see value in it. I hope more people benefit from what OLPC is trying to do.
