Dear Manoj ji
since you are not a TATA fan; I am sure you will accept the facts on its face value and do the justice on merit. I must tshare with you and others that the deal with Tatas by the Government of West Bengal is heavily tilted towards Tatas and the so called investment of Rs. 1500 Crore made at Singur by Tatas do not hold ground when the facts are evaluated. We have got the independence from the British and have fallen into the hands of the most corrupt political leaders from whose clutches, we need to have another freedom movement. We are passing through a phase in this independent India, where our own politicians, many of whom are criminals, irrespective of what colour they belong to are doing their best to ruin us. There is smell of corruption in each and every field. Some one in a TV show discussing the mumbai terror rightly labeled most of the politicians now as no more than jokers who have no love for the people of the country. How can we ignore the facts that even in the purchase of sub standard poor quality bullet proof jackets that failed to save the lives of our brave policemen who lost their lives on the streets of Mumbai in the recent terror strikes or even the purchase of poor quality shoes that were not of much help to our brave Jawans who had to tackle infiltrators on the snow clad Kargil. How can we give a clean chit to the Government of West Bengal who have made a deal which is heavily tilted towards Tatas and the tragedy is that no body is allowed to know even under the right to information, in the name of trade secret. When the mission on moon is not secret, why such excuses are allowed by the state authorities be it West Bengal, Orissa or Chhattisgarh. Under such circumstances, naturally the key word is Transparency, but TATAs have exercised their influence so that the secret deal does not see the light of the day. When you enter in to secret deals and when public demands accountability, the government tries to save faces by issuing false and bogus statements to divert the attention of others, and those who protest label them as anti developmental forces, as if they are the champions of development. When you demand Goverment of West Bengal to pay to the Tatas, I must request you to please considere the above facts and give a rethinking by going through the following. I am of the firm opinion that it is the house of Tatas who must publish their investment account made at Singur and Government of West Bengal to publish what they have given to Tatas at Singur. This will prove that Tatas have even constructed the civil construction with the money that was paid to them by the Government of West Bengal, on the land that has been given to them at a very cheap rate. The fact that is being hidden is that all the drum beating is made in the name of NANO but the fact is it is not only NANOs but many other automobile products too. Read the following which is scripted in tripartite agreement between Tata Motors Ltd., Govt. of W.B. and WBIDC? at clause 1. "Tata Motors Ltd., (TML) was intending to set up a manufacturing Plant for Automobile Products including "Tata Small Car". at clause 7 (b) " WBIDC will provide 645.67 Acres of land to Tata Motors Ltd., on a 90 year lease, on an annual lease rental of Rs. 1 crore per year" [The fact is that besides the above 300 Acres of land for the vendors is also reserved. The rate at Singur is about Rs. 70 Lakhs per acre. Singur is just on the outskirts of Kolkatta] at clause 7 (c) " The West Bengal Govt. will provide to TML a loan of Rs. 200 crores bearing 1% interest per year repayable in 5 equal annual installments starting from the 21st year from the date of disbursement of loan. This loan will be disbursed within 60 days of signing of this agreement." [Rs. 200 crore has been paid to the Tatas before about two years with which Tatas are believed to have made the civil construction, value of which is less than Rs. 200 Crore] Where is the so called investment of Rs. 1500 Crore at Singur??? It is true that people of India are waiting for buying a NANO, one amongst them is your father too. It happens when any thing which is available at cheaper rates, people strive for the same. But does your father know that the excise duty of the said car is paid by the poorest of the poor people of West Bengal? The fifth generation industrialist has managed to hit the morals of the people of India too by keeping them in dark. Let me stretch a bit further. Tatas are at Singur to make money but does your father know that it is the people of West Bengal who will pay the income tax of Tata Motors for almost ten years? The discussion can go lengthy, if we start to pick one thread after another. Tata may be poor to beg Rs. 200 Crore cheap loan, but your father should prefer not to buy a product in which the poorest of the poor is made to make sacrifice. Why to encourage such products? I support the demand that Dr. D. Bandyopadhyay has raised and I convey thanks to Mr. Deba Nayak to share the same with all of us. I also support your views on Behrampur, to which will post my views separately but with regards to the land requirement at Singur, Tatas who are adamant not to go on the other side of the road for vendors, read the following which is a part of the large full page interview of Ratan Tata, published on 07-02-2007 in the Main daily news paper of Italy IL CORRIERE DELLA SERA. Read what Ratan Tata states to the question asked "What about the production facilities?" "We will produce it for the 50% in a new plant in West Bengal (where there are some political problems that Tata minimizes - the interviewer is accurate enough… to add). For the remaining 50% we will encourage the creation of a number of small assembly shops, low cost, all over India. This will be our contribution to the entrepreneurship among the youth of India." My argument is that when half of cars are to be assembled at many locations in India, why there is denial to go on the other side of the road. When vendors can make supplies at many locations all over the country, where the weight in the argument of Tatas that it will not make business sense. The fact is that though this much land is not required, it is grabbed at both hands as the people in power are ready to give away what ever is demanded, who bothers, you need it or not? Thanking you and with regards Pravin Patel __._,_.___
