| Friends, I had put a question to some of my batch-mates from IIT Kanpurregarding the reason for terrorism, entitled "Why terrorism".
One answer I got really impressed me. I felt that it must be so near
to the crux. I thought I might as well share this with this group
regarding a topic that today concerns one and all.
This has been sent by Ajay Chauhan, a Chemical Engineering graduate
who later moved to entrepreneurship and is presently the owner of a
 small Chemical company, Manjula Chemicals---
" In my opinion, terrorism is all about personalities. There is afundamental psychological need in all of us to assert ourselves, to
mould situations as per our will. This is expressed through two
filters. One - our sense of propriety. What line will we never cross
in expressing ourselves. How will we deal with dissent. Will we hear
out voices that oppose us or seek to crush and silence them without
examining their content. The second filter is our capabilities. Can we
garner the means to project our ideas, ideology and personality.
If you analyse terrorism through modern times, they all stem from
personality. This can be very well illustrated by the writings of an
Egyptian ideologue, an elec. engg by profession, later hanged by Hosni
Mubarak's regime. This group is the founder of the current terrorism
in the name of Islam, the ideological fount. Aayman al Zawaahri is a
product of this school. As per these guys, according to Islam, any
Muslim not engaged in violent jehad is not performing his farz, his
 obligation to Allah.
When such people decide on an enemy and a course of action, justify
the taking of human life in their pursuit using concepts of kaafir
etc., organize arms and ordinance, use the element of surprise and
deception, and most importantly, build up a dedicated constituency and
recruit a bunch of performers who otherwise have empty and worthless
lives (this is where religion is of greatest assistance), a terrorist
organisation is born. The objective is pandering to the massive ego of
an unrepresentative leader as in - I brought the superpower America to
it's knees or - I killed a dozen kaafir Hindus. The pattern is a
constant. Lets go over a few examples - Shiv Sena, Bajrang Dal, SIMI (
I have too little info on them), Al Quaeda, Al Fatah (remember Yasser
Arafat), the ULFA, the Kashmiri groupings and of course over very owm
saviour of Marathi pride - Raj Thakeray. In the present context let us
not forget Hamas, the vehicle owned by Shia Iran to probe deep and
interfere with Sunni Arabia. Once underway, these organisations do not
stop with the elimination with the leader. Indeed it is a God sent
opportunity for the 2 in command to take over the leaders role. The
entire top leadership need to be pummelled into submission for
 positive results.
One could argue that Hitler too was a terrorist by such definitions,
and maybe the US too (the Iraq war was after all about egos and
personalities and of course don't forget all those oil contracts to
Bush cronies). In both cases the foot soldiers who are sent out to be
blown up on the front and their families need to be lied to and
brainwashed in a giant spider web of deceit and propaganda. I leave
 this judgement upto you.
I would guess that there is some terrorism for profit also."
