Shaking Gujarat or Vibrant Gujarat

I can't believe any of 60 million people of Gujarat who have suffered due to the misrule of Modi would get any increase in their income by the Rs. 12,00,000 crore MoU Tamasha when all the benefits on their account have only enriched few hundred families. Most would be worried some polluting unit shall come up in their backyard or some gas or canal would pass their property.

Under world's most lunatic Chief Minister, like a truck driver asked pilot an A380 jetliner, passengers get rough fatal ride, people of Gujarat are experiencing rough ride for eight years since he assumed charge.

Modi invested heavily on Sardar Sarovar Project on since 1987 but as per State Economic Review 2007 only 0.153 million hectares new potential could be utilized June2007 of 1.792 million planned.

Modi helped Ambani to build second 30 million tones refinery even as Reliance Petrol & Diesel cost Rs. 4 & Rs.2 more at Reliance Petrol Stations than PSU companies taking the combined capacity to 60 million tones annually. Without Gujarat and GOI aid Reliance would go bankrupt in no time and if taxes deferred by Gujrat & Modi are recovered.

First he didn't allowed foreign aid agencies to undertake rescue operations after Bhuj earthquake. Let me remind friends when Modi was taking Salute on republic day in Gujarat, L.K. Advani and AB Vajpayee were in the enclosure of the President on Rajpath in Delhi for two hours they didn't experience earth violently shook under them even as tens of thousands of buildings crashed to ground in Gujarat. No action was taken against contractors responsible for poor quality.

Then came Gujarat Riots engineered by Modi when 2200 Modi Sewaks traveling free for three days in Indian Railways under then railway minister Nitish Kumar forcibly occupied reserved seats misbehaving and manhandling legal passengers and railway staff after creating trouble at Godhra Station – molesting some women and disappeared leaving legal passengers with family behind to face the local rioting that eventually resulting in fire and loss of innocent lives. Modi decided to shake Gujarat and engineered three month long riots. He provided protection to rioters.

After failure of SSP project Narendra Modi decided to build another Wasteful "Sajalam Sufalam Project" north of Narmada mainline canal pumping waters in to it costing over 6,000 crores that too is destined to fail.

Modi was in Switzerland when Ukai Dam was allowed to fill up during heavy rains but had no capacity to hold back peak floods resulting in Surat going under floods.

He built check dams in rivers that diverted flood waters in to farms and homes of towns and villages – most parts in Gujarat now experience massive floods.

Lies

He claimed 16% GDP growth but actual average compound growth in seven years, GoG data available at constant prices is just 5% per capita.

Very strangely Narendra Modi deleted 2000-01 row when NSDP was negative to make the chart look healthy. Net SDP growth was only 7% and per capita growth only 5% in Gujarat.

Para 3.13 Area and Production – Poor Agriculture

Total Foodgrains under foodgrains increased from 3845 thousand hectares to   4791 thousand hectares but total food-grains production increase was 6.345mt to 6497mt thus for 24.60 increase in area under food-grains food production increase was 2.4%.

Cotton production increased from 6.872 million 170 kg bales to 8.787 million bales but Groundnut production declined from 3.358 million tones to 1.435 million tones and Total Oilseeds area declined marginally from 2962 thousand hectares to 2 848 thousand hectares or - 3.85% but Total Oilseeds production declined from 4.657 million tones to 2.587 million tones – 44.45%.

For 1.915 million 170 kg bales increase in Cotton Production Total Oilseeds production decline was 2.070 million tones. Thus for every 170 kg bale of cotton gain there was loss of 1080 kgs of oilseeds production. 

8.5% Utilization of SSP Irrigation Project

Para 3.51 Sardar Sarovar Project (Including conjunctive use) plan for 17.92 lakh hectare new irrigation potential but utilization so far is 1.53 lakh hectare or just 8.5%. Gujarat, gets very little of SSP power.

Para 4.8 11) 19 Power Sector MoU worth Rs.133429 crores were executed in 2007 but very little was implemented reflected in ever increasing power deficit in Gujarat.

Sujalam Sufalam Yojana is admission of Gujarat of its inability to take water to Kutchh and Saurashtra.

Sujalam Sufalam Yojana :

1) The State has launched an ambitious Sujalam Suphalam Yojana. The works of 332 Km. long Sujalam Suphalam Spreading Canal passing through seven Districts, is in progress.

2) To utilize the flood water of Narmada, and to fill reservoirs and enroute ponds of North Gujarat, works of seven lift irrigation pipe lines under Sujalam-Suphalam Yojana are completed and one is nearly at completion stage.

3) It is planned to divert flood Water of Narmada to 17 Rivers by constructing 107 check dams in Surendranagar District. The works of 100 check dams are completed and the remaining will be completed soon.

4) To prevent the salinity ingress, works of 12 Bandharas are completed in Kachchh region.

5) Works of Panam High Level Canal, Kadana Left Bank High Level Canal, Santroad Weir, Big Check dams on Anas and Gome river are in progress.

Instead of taking waters to needy areas just dumping in 17 rivers would mean good percentage of 9 maf allocated to Gujarat would be wasted in rivers instead of taking it to command area. Following is the original commitment approved by NWDTribunal.

The Sardar Sarovar Project is a multipurpose project, which envisages construction of concrete gravity dam across the river Narmada in Narmada district, two power houses with a combined installed capacity of 1450 MW and 460 Kms. long main canal with a discharge capacity of 40000 cusecs at starting point and 2500 cusecs at Gujarat - Rajasthan border with a network of 75000 Kms. for water distribution system for irrigation.

3.57 The project will provide annual irrigation benefits in an area of about 17.92 lakh hectares spread over 75 talukas of 15 districts in the State. It is also envisaged to provide water for domestic and industrial uses in about 8215 villages and 135 townships. About three-fourth of the command area is drought prone as defined by the Irrigation Commission.

When midway Modi decides to release Naramada Waters in to 17 rivers and Sujalam Sufalam Yojana firstly losses shall increase substantially and very little water will be left for consumption.

How Much Water Is Available To Gujarat?  

"Making uniform monthly releases the amount of water to be released by Madhya Pradesh per month would be 834.65 M.cu.m. (0.677 MAF)" NWDT

677,000 acre feet in a month is 22533 acre feet every day. This is 11266 cusecs. If this water is to be distributed in 15 + 7 districts (SSP + SSY) exactly 512 cusecs is left for each district on average after accounting for losses only 200 cusecs shall be left for each district on average even though up to 40,000 cusec canal may flow it.

Gujarat has 26 districts and Modi want to please 22 districts so very little Narmada water is left for each of them.

Gujarat is not an ideal destination for locating industries except gems and jewelry or such kind of high value products. Average cost of transporting Nano to destinations in India shall be Rs.10,000 or 10% of the product cost. In addition to avoiding transportation cost Car Plants in Gurgaon and Noida have tax advantage.

In 1994 MoU of over Rs.5,00,000 crores worth power projects were signed but almost nothing translated in to project. Dabhol project of ENRON was funded to the tune of $2b by Indian Banks.

Modi is Shaking Gujarat. MoU means more disappointment.
