P.N.BENJAMIN Without waiting for a reply from Mr. Sainath, I'd like to tell him why I used the word 'Dalit' in the above article. It's so simple, Sir:
It is left to writers like me to expose the harsh realities of this sordid world. I just used the tools of a writer in the article imagination, rhetoric, and humour together with a passionate pity for the oppressed, the suppressed and the depressed. These tools have created what we now call a social conscience.
I shall be thankful if Sainath teach me the meaning of the word "Dalit" or his understanding of it, first, then I'll give him my clarifications. Will he be prepared to sue Mahatma Gandhi posthumously for the term "Harijan"?

Dear Manju You seem to be always ready for a fight. If you closely read Benjamins article he said that the samaritans were the equivaemt to 'our' Dalits. dalit means - broken people. I am not sure if you are a dalit. A real dalit will not mind identifying with other similar downtrodden brother anywhere or in history. so do not get too sentimental Suranjeen
