What Is India – a Democracy or Autocracy or Oligarchy? Exclusive One of friend is posting some messages about constitution in India lifting lines from some school text books. The word "Socialist" is most important in our preamble, words "Secular & Democratic" follow it means freedom to practice religion of choice and equal right to all to elect candidates to govern India. Unfortunately there is very little Socialism, Secularism & Democracy in India. "Sovereign" is nothing but independent self rule. Constitution of Political Parties is designed for "Autocracy" as in the case of JDU and many other parties, its President nominates entire Working Committee and other key positions, there is practically no democracy left in the party. When such parties get absolute majority in the state assemblies or parliament individually or with coalition of similar parties it is impossible to defeat them until their five year term runs out – business days of Parliament and Assemblies are reduced to few days in a year. Instead of strengthening of "Democratic Structure" cadres are trained to fight "Street Battles" and enroll criminal elements or in other words cadres with criminal backgrounds are licensed to rule the streets and openly indulge in extortions. Have you ever seen a Political Party with barely enough people who can read and write convening a convention of "Professionals & Intellectuals" to frame improved development plans? Just like Beggar Mafia would amputate limbs of healthy children to firstly increase their Begging Potential, political parties let loose their criminal minded cadre in every street, secondly make sure they don't run away and thirdly but most important make them dependent on their political masters. Anti Defection Law was one of the mechanisms invented to "Plug Whatever Democratic Safeguards" are built in to our constitution. ADL was brought out when ruling party had over 75% majority in parliament. India has unique "Democracy" a family already had three generations becoming Prime Minister, a Chief Minister for 5-6 terms, a Chief Minister in to fourth term 39 years apart, A & V dominating a party for over five decades. Five members of fourth term chief minister are in cabinet. Constitution of most political parties is designed for "Autocratic" rule. Hereditary control over party and state governments is reflected in three generations of a family were Prime Ministers of India and another party was not be left behind it made a person PM thrice, fourth inning was denied by people who defeated his party. There is absolutely rare chance of a deserving capable person selected on merit for these Indian Political Parties and only way out is "Revolt & Desertion" by small fragments to leave the party and register another one. VP Singh, Vaghela, Tohra, Babber are just few examples. In the case of Somnath our Speaker of Lok Sabha though unattached was directed to honor past loyalties during confidence vote. Out of $700b public deposits in Banks farmers and SMEs that support of 95% of Indian families get only $50b as bank credit and moneylenders charge 36% to 120% rate of Interest. Fact is Ratan Tata secured more Bank Credits than entire MSME in India to buy Corus that didn't create a single job in India. Is this "Socialism" or Social Justice all political parties promise to their members and voters? Here in the end different terms describe varying conduct of the governments in the world but Indian democracy is unique a mix of Mediocracy, Lootocracy and Conocracy. Political Parties in India has made us a "Cheating Democracy". Defeating one or two parties will not work. Intellectuals and thinkers have to get together and defeat them all politically and democratically. Ravinder Singh February01, 2009 [The preamble of the constitution defines India as a sovereign, socialist, secular, democratic republic.] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socialism [Socialism refers to a broad set of economic theories of social organization advocating state or collective ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods, and a society characterized by equal opportunities for all individuals with a fair or egalitarian method of compensation.] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/India India, officially the Republic of India. A republic is a state or country that is not led by a hereditary monarch but in which the people (or at least a part of its people) have an impact on its government. The word originates from the Latin term res publica. Autocracy, Oligarchy, Democracy. Autocracy is a form of government in which the political power is held by a single, self-appointed ruler. Oligarchy means rule by the few and democracy means rule by the people. The Constitution of India, the longest and the most exhaustive constitution of any independent nation in the world, came into force on January 26, 1950. The preamble of the constitution defines India as a sovereign, socialist, secular, democratic republic. India has a bicameral parliament operating under a Westminster-style parliamentary system. Its form of government was traditionally described as being 'quasi-federal' with a strong centre and weaker states, but it has grown increasingly federal since the late 1990s as a result of political, economic and social changes.
