Dear Beena Sarwar A very tragic story and indeed unfortunately a daily occurrence which leave countless women affected for the rest of their lives. Well done to Mukhtiar and her supporters. She is a very brave woman. We need women like her with the determination that she has shown to change the society. At the same time we also need similar support and encouragement that is provided not only by the statutory agencies but also the voluntary sector in the developed nations where women who are victims of rape or domestic violence are able to seek help - go into a womens refuge from where they can pursue their assailants, bring them to justice , recieve medical attention and counselling to lessen their trauma and once agian make them confident and able to face the world. My hope is that day is not too far off in developing countries such as India and Pakistan where people would begin to realise that they have a duty to ensure that such malpractices have got to stop and the victims are to be given all the support and help from every quarter. This would only come with the spread of education and understanding of such issues amongst the masses
