Sub:            Cases of death in Kandhamal District because of Violence and other reasons.

Sir,

                   I am to bring to your notice that a number of persons have lost their lives during communal/ethnic violence in the District. As per the information collected from various sources, two updated list has been prepared and enclosed as Annexure-1 & Annexure-2. Annexure-1 gives list of 37 persons who have lost their lives during communal violence in the district. Annexure-2 gives a list of 15 persons who have lost their lives because of various other reasons in the district during that period. Both these lists are being considered for extending financial help to next of Kins (NoKs) of such deceased persons. The Ex-gratia amount which is to be extended has two component i.e (a) Ex-gratia @ Rs.2.00 from Chief Minister's Relief Fund(CMRF) and (b)Assistance under Central Scheme for assisting victims of Communal/Terrorist violence @ Rs.3.00 per family.

2. WE have come across various reports in certain forums and media, which reflects that number of death/missing persons may be more than those, included in above said list. Accordingly we thought it proper to share the information available with us with all concerned with a request to provide us any further information, if available, regarding any other case of death/missing persons. This is being done to ensure that least that can be done at this stage is to extend compensation to families, who have already lost their near and dear ones.
