FEEDBACK OF THE HUMAN RIGHTS EDUCATION STUDENTS PARTICIPATED IN SUMMER PROGRAM SAHAYOG 2009 Date 18th to 22nd May 2009 Human Rights violation Issues identified by the participants CORPORAL PUNISHMENT VIOLATION OF CHILD RIGHTS FEMALE FOETICIDE DOMESTIC VIOLENCE CASTE DISCRIMINATION CHILD LABOUR The above issues are discussed in the Children Summer Programme. As per the feedback, immediate outcomes from the process are briefly as follows: A. CORPORAL PUNISHMENT Corporal punishment is nothing but an audacious behaviour of the teacher to the students i.e. physical punishment, insulting languages, cast and communal discrimination, partial behaviour of the teachers, abnormal behaviour with the girl students, mental harassment etc., which are causes of drop out of the students How corporal punishment has been giving to the students? When students are not maintaining discipline in their class room? When demanding the game instruments in game period? demanding good quality of food in mid day meal, stipend in time, when students are coming late, without motivating them teachers are scolding them by using of irrational language or harassing word by taking name of their cast, community, physical appearance, heating by stick, pinching them or order to kneel down, to standup by one leg with crossing the all limits of cruelty and anger. Very often teachers are engaging the students forcibly to do their personal work, which leads to violation of child rights. Due to above mentioned physical punishment and social biased cruelty also leads mental torture. Reasons fueling the corporal punishment 1. When students are demanding the game instruments in game period 2. When students are demanding good quality of food in mid day meal 3. When students are demanding stipend in time 4. Teachers forcibly engaging the students on their personal works 5. Irritating nature shown to the students without any fault 6. When students are coming late 7. When students are making noise in the absence of teacher in respective classes. 8. When students are opposing during discontent of the topic taught by the teacher. 9. When students are opposing the slang used by the teacher in the class room. 10. When students are asking the questions and teachers are not responding. 11. When students are not answering correctly. Students have opined for Remedy 1. With absolute patience teachers must thoroughly clarify the doubt of the students 2. Teacher must have love and sharing attitude towards students 3. Teacher should be punctual and prompt in content knowledge inside the classroom. B. VIOLATION OF CHILD RIGHTS Student expressed their view with problem tree analysis in addition to various core issues are as follows: Child abuse is a growing crisis in contemporary society; it hampers protection, survival, participation and all-round development of children. Although entire exploitation with the children i.e. Child labour, Child marriage, Child trafficking, Child pornography, caste and gender Discrimination, tortured by teacher, torture by drunkard father are not only violation of child rights but also degradation of social values and ethics. C. FEMALE FOETICIDE The participants have narrated about evil intention of the society that girl child are irrational element. They do not have any rights to survive, participate and contribute in the development process of the society. Female foetus are being detected in wombs of the mother by the family members through scientific instrument and vanished. This is an increasing feudalistic mindset of the people. D. DOMESTIC VIOLENCE A frank and honest picture painted by a group of students that the degree of torture of a women in her in laws house. Domestic violence is black cloud for a womens married life. Tortured and harassed by the drunkard husbands, sons, in laws and dowry torture are regular feature in the villages. Some cases it is leads towards burning, hanging, poisoning and killing of the innocent women. E. CASTE DESCRIMINATION In a clear picture students have mentioned regarding social discrimination made by upper class people. So very beginning Dalits are not allowed to enter into the temple, which reflects as God is made only for upper class people. When Dalits community are not adhering the so called barriers, then the upper class people are playing with untouchable cards and dont allow to access water tank, pond, well, and etc. Why the upper class people are doing like this? Because Dalit people dont have any personal resource to maintain their family dignity and also they are not aware about their basic civil rights. F.CHILD LABOUR In a painful picture dominated by tears shows. The child has a great wish to go the school but the ground reality defers from his dream. Instead of slate the society is not only putting plates spoons in Childs tiny hand but also giving hazardous assignment, which reflects the dream of school is a big distant. The participants have recognized the ugly child labour system, which is mockery to the fundamental rights of a child. They have opined that every child must have come to school with dignity. G. CHILDREN HUMAN RIGHTS CLUB All the participants have opined to form Children Human Rights Club in the school to strengthen academic atmosphere in the campus, to solve the short comings of the students problem, to make sensitize the parents and community about child labour, hazards of liquor, to check drop out from the school, cast and communal discrimination, women harassment, female foeticide, etc. G.CONCLUSION The participants have strongly opined to form Human Rights Club in the school to eradicate all such issues narrated in the feed back column. The origin of the conclusion dates back with the students suggestions, feedbacks through pictures. All the valuable documents meticulously studied. It reflects transparency and accountability of the Human Rights Education student participants in the summer camp. It also signifies their growing sensitivity towards root causes of the social problems and its reflection on the same.
