Re:Secularistic approach : In Kerala, Hindus need help - Times of India

Thanks to the person posting this mail on the comparative situation of the three maojr communities in Kerala. It is indeed very informative.  However there appear to be some crucial oversimplifications in the break-up.  Overall it is true that the Christians in Kerala are quite well-off. But there is a large section among them - the fisherfolk - who are Christians but who do not have very high incomes. The average may be high due to the vast disparity in income within the community - from super-rich to dirt-poor.

Also the classification Hindu most probably includes tribals and dalits - together a very siginficant section of the population who in the past hundred years or so who have been totally assetless for various well-known and documented reasons, thereby pulling down further the figures for the group as a whole. Finally, it is my impression - I am open to correction - that KSSP while in its heyday did indeed have strong Marxist links, but has declined for various internal and external reasons and may have drifted from its ideological moorings in recent years.
