Dear All, Its nearly 3 weeks since Police firing on Abibasi demonstrators killing one and injuring many others including few police men.Most Adibasi injured were not taken to hospital for fear of being arrested and they are struggling to have treatment at villages and some of them may succumb to their injuries. The sad thing is no body is speaking up for them except handful of NGOs who came from outside the areas and went away..The govt. had belated response which was rather half hearted.The local administration is busy trying to justify the police firing but had not made any effort to go and meet the people and see to their needs and welfare.The govt. has lifted the curfew from the area but now I am informed that the local people have imposed their own curfew and are not allowing the local administration.This stalemate needs to be broken and broken soon to prevent further suffering and possibly unnecessary deaths of injured. One possible way to do this is for the govt to announce an impartial judicial enquiry to find out the cause of police firing and announce adequate compensation to the bereaved and injured families and then negotiate the displacement and resettlement issues.
