The simple answer to your question is "No" No academic degree should be given to the one who has not worked hard for it and has not achieved the requisite acceptable academic standard. However, the Honorary degrees are a different cattle of fish. They are given by the Universities, who are themselves considered centres of excellence, to those individuals who have made outstanding achievements in any field of excellence This is an honour that is bestowed in recognition of an achievement and who would you think is better placed than a University. asoorshyam Will it not be good to restrict the powers of university staff who
are ridiculing the significance of highest degree by awarding to
whoever they think. Those who receive them undeservingly should
judge the value of earning a degree of such honour and decline them
if they have any regard for the sanctity of the title.
