Bhubaneswar:14/January/2009 The Chairman of the Ama Odisha, has proved to be the best Blood Collector of the State.
Ama Odisha, the leading NGO of the state has embarked upon a massive drive for blood collection in the state.
People of Orissa, who have suffered greatly due to paucity of life saving blood, are assured with a strong commitment from Mr. Patnaik.
Briefing Media on 14 January here Mr.Patnaik said "We are engaged in a Mission"- "Let no one die for want of Blood".
Since last 3 years the NGO is engaged in blood collections. During 25-31 October, 2006 at least 181 blood donation camps were organized to collect 9250 units.
In 2007, the Organization organized 311 blood donation camps to collect 15,557 units of blood.
And in 2008, Ama Odisha has collected 17,570 units of blood by organizing 365 camps.
And till date it has organized 857 camps and has been able to collect 32,377 units of blood.
During last 3 years blood collection has grown manifold and a lot of misconception about blood donations has been erased from the minds of the people, said he.
Though it was decided to cover entire state, due to heavy floods in coastal districts and law & order problem in Kandhamal, Rayagada and Malkangiri, blood donation camps were not held in these areas.
Interestingly Mayurbhanj district organized highest number of donation camps, while maximum number units of blood were collected from Angul district.
Among the urban areas, Bhubaneswar City, collected the highest 3860 units of blood, said Mr.Patnaik.
Mr.Patnaik said during this year all the 314 blocks of the state will be covered with blood donation camps.
Similarly all the urban bodies will be covered during the campaign, said he.
