To day I saw a news item in HINDU daily news paper. The Govt has approved mid day meals to all children in madrassas. Not only that their fee for appearing for final exams are waived. Will not this lead to a chain reaction leading to more and more funds being siphoned to various religious based schools in the country ? Appeasment would have no end. On the other hand non involvement of Govt with any religion based activities would have a telling affect on the nation.

 

I think there will be no end for this debate. Arguments will flow from all directions. The most important thing for India is to become truly secular in its governance. All intellectuals must strive for that. Those who shun such a reform would be automatically exposed.

 

What is my definition for truly secular ? The governance of this nation would have nothing to do with any religion. Religion would have no placr as far the government is concerned. Govt would not follow any religious rituals as part of its activities. It will not support any religious initiatives. They are private.

 

Once this happens, there would be only Govt schools with approved syllabus. Therefore the question of recognizing or not recognizing does not arise. It is time that all intellectuals in the country wake up and seek a truly secular Government. That is the only solution to India with all its inherent diversity. Continued appeasment of different factions of population would lead to disintegration of India into 569 states if not more.
