Dear Prof Kalluri S Rao I must congratulate you for expressing in the penultimate paragraph of your e-mail common sense views that could lead to stability, economic viability and real peace and harmony in the country as well as between India and its neighbours. You have given the example of Switzerland and let me add that I have always followed with interest the way Swiss have done things and I was very impressed by their attitude when I visited Switzerland. However I am not convinced that Indians would ever adopt that attitude - not because Indians (and I am an Indian - now living abroad) do not want to live in peace and harmony with each other or with their neighbours or they do not wish to be prosperous and happy but simply because the people who are leading India today are not Gandhi or Nehru - they owe their positions of power and privilege by dint of fanning the flames of disharmony and discord and by generating hatred against fellow Indians on grounds of religion, caste and status. So long as our gullible fellow Indians will not realize that such feelings of hatred against each other will only destroy them and their great country I am afraid that we will continue to suffer for a long long time. I am truly flabbergasted by some of the views that are expressed in this Forum which indicate deep seated hatred against fellow humanbeings and given such a set of circumstances it would be enormously difficult for people to see a clear and balanced way of life where every one is accommodated, respected and valued based on their actions and not on their religion or caste. I only wish that this deep seated hatred between communities could some how turn into an understanding of mutual repsect of each other's religion and point of view and India could become a caring, charitable and tolerant society to which every Indian, whererever he or she may be, may feel proud to be a part of.
