Dear Mr Ashok,
I am with u and your support to OILMAN. But don't you think the strike has been wrongly led.When a worker i.e. a person who does physical labor and is lowly paid, stops the work in demand of higher wage people may not look down upon them. But when a white collared man demands higher salary and stops work and that the public as a whole is affected they are looked down. If u notice the resentment by Army men for inequity in their pay package in comparison to IAS, they did not go for strike rather sent dissent voice and in the aftermath of 26/11 terror attack they mustered enough support from the public and that the PM has no other option than to raise their salary unilatterally.
I have also led as Officer's Association President, a PSU movement but clearly said no to strike down the Plant during Nalco Movement in 2002. The Plant went on running and we garnered support from the public. So much so was the support that the entire Orissa was closed down for a day and NDA govt had to bow down to our demand and thereafter PSU privatisation was halted and Disinvestministry locked down.
I still feel the Oilman have not been humiliated nor do the public is angry with them. It has to be led in different direction, may be after some breathing time.
I have a strong conviction that a PSU is far far superior to a Private company and it's policy. But then one has to trade carefully when the action affects millions.
