I have been following these discussions. What amazes me is that, in a place where most people are poor and live in slum and are malnourished, we can still talk that a different reality should have been shown... This is the reality of India and not a few travelling in Bentleys and living in posh colonies in the Metros. Majority of India is still living in poverty and if a movie depicts that instead of half clotheds Aishwariya Rais and Kareena Kapoors running around the trees with larger than life twice born Shah Rukh Khans (read Om Shanti Om) then we are very sad. We should actually critique showing such unrealistic movies to the world and not this kind of movies. Our movies depict most of us as dancing around trees and is that the India and the image we want to show to the world and bury our heads in the sand of depicting the real India? I am not oppsoed to watching that kind of movies we are subject to right now, those are fun too and I think we should have the guts to watch movies that show the real India as well. Child labour is so rampant is India, infact it has the world's highest number of child labourers and yet we can talk like this, Dharavi is Asia's biggest slum and Mumbai is full of slums and yet we say we should portray a different Mumbai!! Who do you we want to fool? And Satyajit Ray and Ritwik Ghtak, what did they portray- the deprivations and poverty in Bengal.. then we are happy to take those kind of films.. Why have we then made them masters of realistic film making.... Attack the politicians and the governance system of the country so that we can depict a different India in some years instead of the movie. And lets us also become a part of this and not only remain at the periphery and limit our selves to such discussions only! Prita
