There has always been a complaint that when ever rich are in trouble or they are the cause of the trouble, the government comes forward with a helping hand. This is true with Satyam computers too. Ramalinga Raju siphoned off crores leaving the employees and share holders high and dry. There are more than twenty- five lawyers to defend him and his innocence though he has given in writing that he has fudged the account. The Commerce Minister hinted in his press conference that the government may bail out the company with tax payers' money. It was revealed during discussion in the TV current affair show that Satyam computers have not paid any tax enjoying tax holiday as an IT industry. D Raja of CPI was right when he suggested that the properties of Ramalinga Raju must be confiscated forth with. But there is no a word about that. Even the new Directors who are appointed by the government seem to be related to the company in one way or the other. The Minister Ashvini Kumar, who had taken part in the discussion ,was unable to give a convincing reason as to why bail out is necessary. This gives rise to the suspicion that politicians might have been involved in it. Metro Railway Chairman Shreedhar had warned a few months back that the AP Metro may be in political controversy. But the officials of the department had threatened Shreedhar with a defamation case. It is not known as to where they are hiding now. Therefore, it is very unethical to bail out the company with tax payers' money. It has become a fashion with the politicians to throw public money as though that is their ancestral property. They must be feeling that their job is over once public money is distributed in such situations. God save the country! MH Nayak Mumbai-71.
