Ms. J C Dash Thanks to Mr. Ansari for raising a very valid point for discussion. Famous Writer Mr. Jayant Mohapatra is awarded with Padmashree along with a Aishwarya Rai and a Aksyaya Kumar. We dont deny of awarding people from Hindi film industry but the selection should be very very rational. There may be many actors, singers, directors, writers or producers or technical persons who have contributed to the film industry to reach at global standard. But why these people. They are yet to go a long way to be the receipient of such national awards. This is not the only award where we see irrational selection but what concerns us that the world sees who is awarded with the prestigius Padma awards of India. I sincerely condemn the selction. Ms. J C Dash, Orissa Yes, I have also been confused with the Padma awards. Nowadays it seems to be based on criteria which are not uniform for everyone. One hears also of people lobbying for these awards. But there have been deserving people who have received these awards. There have been howlers as well. Mother Teresa, got the Bharat Ratna after she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Satyajit Ray was conferred the Bharat Ratna only after he was awarded by Hollywood for his lifetime achievements! | I agree with this view. Many of the so called film stars are awarded for roles which have no impact on society, their roles as actors that is. They are idolized and the awards come as a resuklt of an inert and ineffectual populism.There are many artistic actors who are not recognized. The Padma awards have turned into a spurious and dubious acknowledgement of people who seem to know the ' right ' kind of people. There are silent crusaders in the field of education, human rights, social activism who go unrecognized.
