Friends: Insight Young Voices, a magazine for Dalit youth, came into being inthe context of the constant attack by reactionary forces on the aspirations of young first and secnd generations Dalit students who are just entering the university, professional and higher education streams in India for very obvious reasons. The struggle the collective - made of dalit students (who are also the subjects and the driving force of the magazine) - has faced in keeping the magazine alive is akin to the struggle the students themselves face even in universities, which have a progressive image, like JNU, but also the regressive AIIMS and the IITs and IISc - otherwise known as Iyer-Iyengar Insititutes of Tech and Science.... But the magazine is alive, and the current issue is on the subject "On Suicides, Caste and Higher Education". I will try to upload the file on Jharkand if anyone is interested in reading the same. We are sorry that despite our best efforts the educational system in our country continues to be a bastion of exclusion and casteism, but such tragedies, far from causing us disheartenment, inspires us to greater efforts to be a part of the solution rather than the problem. An earlier edition of the magazine is available on www.insightyoungvoices.org.
