Reading the article / letter makes me feel really sad and angry. This Christmas one of my colleague presented me a book instead of usual bottle of wine ( I am in UK) the book was by Aravind Adiga., a Booker prize winner. last year ....yes you guessed it "The white tiger". Some of you must have read it and I am sure the book has sent mixed reaction amongst the readers.... some good and some bad. I will not make any comments now as I have not finished the book yet. All I can say that it is a fascinating book ( fiction or is it real??? ) with glimpses of events that we read everyday in the media about happenings in India. This letter reminds me of the main characters narration where the driver(chauffer) is made to sign an affidavit by the masters father inlaw killing someone on the road.(Whereas the masters actually killed someone unknown on the road past midnight/early morning. The drivers masters actually killed someone unknown while driving recklessly under the influence of alcohol. Sad as it is about this young lad being tortured to make a false confession, I am sure it is an everyday affair in the thousands of police stations in India framing some innocent victim with false accusation. Is there such thing as JUSTICE in India ?? I am glad that I decided to become a doctor and not a lawyer.. . No offence to any individual lawyer in India however I have no respect for lawyers even in UK!! I am sure I am going to have lots of letters from judges/lawyers in the forum criticizing and condemning doctors because I am sure there are few bad doctors out there, greedy doctors and negligent doctors etc etc but I guess it is the proportion in general. I am sure there are MANYmartyr policemen ( not just Karkare) who sacrifice their lives trying to fight for justice and all. I am sure there are lawyers without whose sacrifice there is no justice to be seen. Hopefully year 2009 will make people goodwilled, justice loving , honest, corruption free and make people to love each other and live in harmony, because that is the list of things I asked MY Santa Clause ( I am a christian, but I don't really believe in him !!!). It so happens Santa Clause DID NOT come to my place in his sleigh or down the chimney. I didn't see any present wrapped under my christmas tree..... Oh no... looks like I am not going to have any present from him this year either...So is it much point asking him with the list of things I asked for the world in my previous paragraph??? I will wait untill the next christmas.... and meanwhile .... Happy New Year to all in the forum, including people who I may have upset by my occasional few lines of letter/ comments..
